she might have taken her own life otherwise. Her sidequest reveals that the republics' forward thinking made her life bearable. I tend to think that if they'd not wanted any faction-tied companions, the devs would have had to develop 4 very different companions who clearly had no love for any faction. I suppose that the devs could have designed things in such a way that none of the companions were strongly tied to a faction, but that might have seemed weird for Maia, Pallegina, Tekehu, or Sarafen. And it seems to me that it'd screw up the overall balance of these 4 companions if only one of them wasn't nearly as strong a defender of his/her faction as the others. So, it really comes down to the design of Deadfire's faction system and how 4 of the companions are very loyal to their factions. Also, don't forget that Sarafen and Tekehu are also staunch defenders of their factions as well. And remember that both are representatives of their faction, so it shouldn't come as a shock that they're difficult if not impossible to sway away from their faction. i think the player should have been able to mold pallegina views like in poe1. dont undestand why pallegina in poe2 lacked criticism for the republics. through dialogues (perhaps through romance), your character should have been able to change pallegina views regarding the republics, changing pallegina personality. So in the end, it depends on what else you bring to the party.Pallegina should have been like Viconia in baldurs gate. And because their heals are fairly effective(compared to passive healing, anyway), they rarely have to cast them more than a few times, allowing them to use some of their other spells(damage, buffs or debuffs) as well. Now, that being said, a Priest(or Druid) is more than just a heal bot. And Pallegina can be one, and because she is an Avian Godlike, she has resistance to Perception and Intelligence afflictions, so you dont need to invest skill points in those(it is a Paladin option). You can even get a few summons, if you want to.Īll in all, it is a very flexible support class. On top of that, the class also get revive abilities, CC, buffs and debuffs(passive or active) and has good defenses, so it will rarely get focused down. The Herald multiclass(Paladin+Chanter) gets 2 passive AoE healing effects(Exalted Endurance and Ancient Memory) as well as single target and AoE heals(Lay on Hands and Rejoice my Comrades). Tl dr The most straightforward option is the priestess, Xoti, you get in the first town, Port Maje. The system's pretty flexible, you can even split the job between a couple of them, and supplement it with items as well as any abilities that grant the Robust buff (+5 Con, +2 Armor, regeneration), like a cipher's Pain Block (Serafen was my main healer for most of one game) or barbarian's Savage Defiance (self-only). Your other best bets are a paladin (Pallegina), druid (Tekehu, Fassina), or chanter (Pallegina, Tekehu, Konstanten, Fassina, Vatnir.). There's another priest, Vatnir, but he's from the DLC and pretty hard to get before level 14 or so. Even as a multiclass priest/monk she can potentially handle all your healing needs on her own. Xoti in particular, since her subclass, Harvester of Gaun, is partly based on the Priest of Eothas (god of light and life) kit, and gives you access to Withdraw and Minor Intercession as class spells. A single-class priest, like Xoti, is going to be the best overall.
